Quality, Quantity and timing are the most important factors in any person’s diet. A diet suitable for a diabetic is suitable for all.

Eat quality meals at regular intervals evenly spread out through the day in order to maintain good health. Food should be eaten in adequate quantities to maintain ideal weight.

Home cooked meals are preferred to commercially prepared food.

Quantity
  • Quantity should be determined by the level of activity and the need to maintain ideal body weight.
  • Learn to say enough “No’ and “enough” – this will protect you from eating too much.
  • Limited quantity of starch product with free intake of fruits and vegetables is advocated.
Timing
  • School children should eat 4 small meals at regular intervals
  • Children at home and adults can manage with 3 meals per day
  • Do not delay or miss meals
