Kathmandu Declaration

The Kathmandu Declarations presents a unique concept of a “Life Circle” approach which flows through all stages from preconception, pregnancy, infancy and childhood and adult life in a continuous and integrated manner. It formulates a set of guidelines that can be incorporated in any national diabetes prevention programme globally as the interaction of all accepted aetiological factors have been taken into consideration.

Representatives from many regions of the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) met to agree on a consensus document on primary and secondary prevention of diabetes at the Inaugural Conference of Diabetes in Asia Study Group held in Kathmandu Nepal in October 2008. The declaration is based on the consensus meetings in Colombo 2002 and in Lisbon in 2006.
