The inaugural conference for DASG was held on the 17th and 18th of October 2008 in Kathmandu, Nepal, and was set up to discuss the implementation of the Primary Prevention Strategies for Type 2 Diabetes. The Kathmaundu Declaration described below was formulated at this meeting.

 

 

The aims of the group are to promote awareness of diabetes and encourage research in the diabetes and related disorders field. It also aims to promote the exchange of opinions and cultivate advocacy amoung the Asian population. This would therefore lead to improved strategies for the diagnosis, care and prevention of diabetes. The DASG meeting had 384 participants.
